Spring time is upon us even if it doesn’t necessarily feel like it. Our customers have been busy with new baby calves, lambs, goats and chicks. We are stocked up on creep feeds and chick starters for all of your needs. As show season really gets under way we have our Old Mill Show Feeds floor stocked and a wide variety of supplements on hand. You may have noticed we have had a few different brands of wood shavings lately. Our suppliers are having issues sourcing wood shavings so we have had to switch around to keep them in stock. This seems to happen every year at this time and we are working on some long term strategies to avoid issues in the future. 

Sourcing ingredients has been a bit of a wild ride the last month or so. Global politics have played a bit of a part in the sharp price increases along with typical supply chain issues. Amino acids and vitamins have been the most volatile and in some cases we are seeing price increases as high as 200 percent. DL Methionine is very hard to source right now but we will receive enough on allocation to meet our current needs. I got a heads up on the DL Methionine issues and was able to get out ahead of it a bit and source some extra to give us a slight cushion. 

Employee Spotlight – Kristen Sherrard

Our April employee spotlight is the one who keeps this whole place held together. If you ever have a question about your bill she is the one you talk to and she will always make sure it gets done correctly. The last few months Kristen stepped up and covered for Terry while he was gone plus did her job and things clicked right along. She is also the one behind the social media posts for the company and a whole bunch of other things around here that people don’t notice her doing. 

Kristen and her husband Ross have 3 kids and farm west of St. Ansgar. Kristen volunteers her time with a bunch of different organizations and is very active in the community.

Product Spotlight

One of our best selling products from Kent is Barn Cat. We started carrying this economical cat food about a year ago and it has quickly become a customer favorite.  If you have a lot of cats to feed on the farm this definitely needs to be on your shopping list!
